According to the Fish and game guys(per their publications on the niles) that population of Niles has been around for over 10yrs. While it has grown it has not grown to the proportions that you suspect they are. As much stuff as gets turned loose here in fl. not as much gets established as you think. There was an importer in cent. fl. who was notorious for turning loose sick reptiles(not hearsay...I actually witnessed it personally, reported it to fish and game also who did nothing btw.) For everything he turned loose over the years the only thing to establish itself were red-headed agamas which apparently have not spread very far and the population is predated on heavily by reptile collectors.
