It is pretty easy and cheap to cut some 2x4s and some hardware cloth to make an aquarium top. I much prefer these to store bought tops because they are heavier from the start and prevent escapes. The 2x4 edges also allow more protection because if the snake pushes up on the screen, the 2x4 still blocks it from getting out somewhat.

You can use 1x2s if you want to reduce weight/cost. With a few heavy duty staples and some hardware cloth, you can make a decent top for just a few bucks.
