I have always successfully switched to FT. (I also have no access to live). I've only switched about ten, so it may just be luck, but There are lots of different things you can try. If your snake is on the way, it may be a good time of year to switch him too. IF he was off feed for the winter, it may help. I have found that once they do take FT, they will continue. If he is fasting, he will be VERY hungry when he decides to eat again. That may help.
I have a couple that still require, what my daughters call, "the rat dance", but I have few enough that I can take the time to do it! You may just have to work at it until you figure out what works for your snake. Patience=success.
