Posted by: phantoms at Fri May 9 16:27:26 2008 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by phantoms ] i had my 8ft long by 4ft wide by 4ft tall tank in my basement for a blackthroat monitor. my basement temps were 55-60. i only had two dome lights on it. one had a 250 watt infra red which stayed on 24/7. the other had a higher daytime spotlamp. in all, my basking spot was about 130 a couple feet away and twoards the bottome it was around 100. warm side of the tank (i had both dome lights on one side) was in the 80s-90s. cool side was about 75. at night the whole tank would drop to about 70-75 with the one light off. probably a little warm on the heated end. i didnt use any bottom heat. the tank was just framed out with 2x4s and then had plywood sides. the bottom and sides i used some kind of 4x8 material used in bathrooms to water proof and make cleaning easy (i already sealed the wood). i had two plexiglass windows on one side for viewing. i think 30" x 30". although glass would be better. my guy scratched the heck out of it! and yes i had a top. helped keep the heat in. on one of the 4x4 sides i cut a board in half and put it on hinges and made the door, with locks! anyway, hope this gives you some ideas and assures you that you can heat an enclosure in a cool basment. good luck [ Hide Replies ]
