my black throat monitor takes his daily poops in his water. but he doesn't soak at all. he typically gets in the water, spins around under water (like he's swimming) for a minute or two, then poops and immediately gets out and resumes his daily activities.

now, i remember FR telling me that my rudi soaking and deficating in the water was a big sign of dehydration. i was wondering if that can be applied to only defication eventhough the animal doesn't soak in the water. here's a picture of the cage. as you can see, it's a solid lid top and it holds humidity really well. also, he can choose from temps as high as 140º basking spot to as low as 75º burrow. of course, this picture isn't completely updated. it was taken the same day the cage was complete. his basking spot has been increased in size so he can warm his entirety and i've added some slightly curved pieces of wood for hides and to encourage burrows.
