Those things are very prevalent here in Florida. I had a female boa have surgery on her tail and battled those dumb things for months. They lay eggs in between the staples. I looked them up and apparently scientists in Florida found this "awesome" fly in South America that was supposedly able to control the fire ant population. So they bred them and let them loose in Florida, guess what? Didnt work. So now we have a bunch of what they call "cadaver" flies running around. They look like fruit flies, but they aren't. They lay eggs in rotting things and open wounds. Any how just keep an eye out because they are small and a big pain. I am guessing you have them up there in Jacksonville. Hope she recovers quickly for you looks like a really nice surgery job! Good Vet!
