Additionally, any of the tortoise species from Madagascar are in grave danger of becoming extinct. The Pyxis planicauda and G. yniphora are in extreme peril. Most in danger is G. yniphora, the Madagascar Ploughshare Tortoise, of which there were estimated to be only 200-250 yniphora left in the wild as of 2007. There may be even fewer than that today. Just to confirm, that number is two HUNDRED, not thousand. | ||
