>>Does anyone reading this use AVID chips to mark thier animals? I had a Vet put them into my Mexican Beaded Lizards embedded between the shoulders. I got news that they may cause cancer. If your animal was lost and then found by a knowing person who might check you might get your animal back. My question is where in the snake would you place your AVID chip? And if not the chip then what are people using to mark high dollar reptiles? Please share your secrets. Shannon

I will be microchipping two animals in my collection this year. Both are iguanids, so we will use the shoulder blade location. I have not yet microchipped a snake myself, but hopefully someone who has will respond. I do my large torts in the hind right leg. I am currently trying to get all shelters that take in reptiles to start scanning the animals for chips.

On the cancer note, the cancer that has been reported is 2 cases in dogs with 1 positively linked to the chip. However no further information was given as to if the dog had a predisposed tendency to cancer. Lab rat occurrance is higher, however not at the present alarming rate some new reports make you feel. Any forgein object insert in something can cause cancer. However with the permanent identification, I would never hesitate to microchip my pets.
