I use tile in all of my vivs. I get either the slate or sandstone and it looks really nice. Best of all, there is zero risk of impaction (I have seen impacted adults of other species, and heard of a uro with sand impaction, but will admit that the rest of the husbandry was probably off)and it is super easy to clean and disinfect. My lizards don't seem to have a problem without the sand. I just give them low hides that they can wedge themselves into.
