RE: best kind of substrate to use

Dirt from my backyard is the best substrate. These animals love to burrow. My pair is kept in a 10' x 4' enclosure with 2' of dirt. If your Uro get impacted you have serious husbandry issues besides substrate.



In the first picture you can see the males' burrow. It's hard to tell from the pics but it's very large. Ths is his primary burrow.
