Soe,
I can remember not too long ago catching scalarais in manholes while working in Spain. I had a water line project and it seems like every one of those manholes we connected to had a scalaris or two living in it (they must like th moisture or they got trapped and couldn't get out and lived off of the frogs. I remember finding one on a spring day while excavating for a 10" water line. The snake was about 2-3 down in the earth and as the bucket lifted up I yelled "stop" just in time to scoop it from the bucket and save it a trip to the spoils pile a couple of kilometers away.
Those scalaris are neat and fiesty when warmed up. I also caught several coluber hippocrepis or horeshoe racer while I was there. Spain is a really cool place for herps.
Love all the eggs, especially the leopard rats. I found many DOR in spain and never could find one alive.
Russ
