If you are in Southern California you can keep them outdoors from the end of spring through the beginning of fall. I don't bring them inside and they do great.



The latest cage I built has a sloping top layer for maximum sunlight. It also extends wire completely underneath the cage so they can't dig out. Make sure to face your cage towards the south to maximize sun as well. Give them some shade to hide under. I also keep live lettuce plants (the butter leaf ones you can buy at the grocery store) in their cages so they can munch throughout the day.



A few notes:



It's probably a bit too cold along the coast of Northern CA.



It might be too hot inland many days, make sure they have plenty of shade.



Coastal Southern CA is probably the easiest, as it tends to be warm but not above the 80s most of the time.
