I went to the SA zoo two days ago to get lighting/heating ideas for the large indoor desert enclosure I'm building. In the desert iguana cage they had lighting on the ceiling atleast 8-10 feet above any climbing surface and basking spot lights pointed at an angle atleast 5 feet away from the basking areas. I don't know if the uv came from the ceiling light fixture or the basking bulb but I assume a zoo would make sure uv was present. My question... Any ideas what type of heating bulbs the zoo used? It would have to be a pretty strong bulb to reach 110 degree temps from 5 feet away. Also, would the uv be beneficial to the lizards if it was such a far distance?
