There is no ban. The issue that brought all this up was that there was a Notice of Inquiry from US Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, started to gather information about IF released large pet constrictors pose a threat to the public and/or wildlife. This was not a bill or a possible ban, just a fact-gathering project (which might have been used later to decide whether or not a ban or law would be appropriate).
There was a HUGE response from the reptile community (and with the help of PIJAC) - and I think that surprised USDFW. I don't think we have anything to worry about right now - this isn't one of those knee-jerk legislations that sometimes happen when a mayor's kid gets bitten by a pet constrictor, just fact-gathering. ----- Lauren Madar - OphidiaGems.com | CageMakers | lauren at liquidleaf dot com |
