All snakes heart rate and breathing go way up when they are initially picked up, it's just a typical nervous response when a giant swoops down on them with a hand the size of a car!..LOL!
It will get more used to being held in time, but it's still totally normal for ALL snakes breathing to increase especially when first picked up,...even long-term captives. It's just the way snakes are "wired".
