Since yours is a baby he should calm down pretty quick. The adults take some time. Some tips we've learned, try to handle him at least one a week, but not every day until he is tame. They can get stressed out if you mess with them every day. Be mindful of your shadow, we have noticed that a shadow passing over their head will get their attention.



Basically they aren't mean snakes, they are defensive and scared. We have a pair of ch babies from last year, the female trembles for the first couple of minutes she is held and all she wants to do is go back to her cage.



Everyone says that dwarfs are "chainsaws". Maybe ours aren't as mean as others or maybe we have worked with ours more, I don't know. Ours would strike and/or musk everytime we handle them in the beginning. Now, all of them will let me handle them, at least enough to move them to another cage while we clean theirs. I wear gloves when I handle some of them, more for my piece of mind than protection, I've only been bit once by any of our dwarfs.



All in all dwarfs are some interesting snake. Our big girl (all 6 1/2 feet of her) has earned the name D.L.G.(Daddy's little girl). When I walk into the room she usually pops her head up and watches every move I make, but when my wife walks into the room she doesn't pay her any attention.
