Until my son wanted a ball python, I was terrified of snakes. A lot has changed since then. We purchased a ball and have added a corn since then. Corns are hardy and docile snakes which require very little care. Small enclosure as a baby and 20 gallon enclosure as adults. They don't grow too long and come in amazing color variations that can be the focus of any conversation.
As long as they have fresh water to soak in, a heating pad underneath them and a couple of hides, they require very little care. As opposed to domestic animals, you can go on vacation for a week and not need anyone to care for them. They'll be perfectly happy while you're away.
They don't stink...
They don't make noise...
They eat only once or twice a week...
Great pets (this coming from someone who never thought he would own one, never mind two...and counting).
Just keep up on your research and be persistant... Good Luck
