Actually not recommended at all.
I hear a lot about impaction but I personally don't feel impaction is as likely as just bad habitat conditions.
For a corn snake you need higher humidity then sand dwellers would need. I feel this added moisture can increase the chance of bacteria growing in the sand. Also, sand tends to get everywhere, in the water bowl, in the hides, everywhere.
I hear sand can get under a corn snake's scales and cause irritation. Not so sure it really does, but not so sure it doesn't, either.
there are better substrates for corn snakes including aspen for a more natural environment and paper towels for a more sterile type enclosure. ----- Corn snakes and rat snakes..No one can have just one.
