Mike,
CONGRATS on an AWESOME litter. There are many things going on with the Hypo Motley that I have told a few people. I just didn't understand how or why it was doing this with the MOTLEY and not the hypo Jungle or the hypo Arabesque. Until last year and this year I have yet to confirm it with numbers.
A really whacky thing this year was breeding a Salmon Jungle Motley to another snake. It was weird to see where all the genes went. Again, NO NORMALS.
Dave and Tracy Barker has been helping me understand the genetics involved in this project, and a few others. We should have some clear answers in the next few weeks.
However, when you breed a HYPO Motley to a NORMAL, you will either get HYPOS, or Motleys, with NO normals.
The ONLY way a red devil has been produced is Hypo Motley to Hypo Motley. (stil yet to get a live one). Next year should answer more questions.
The only thing I can say with AFFIRMATIVE, is that when you breed a Hypo Motley to a NORMAL, you will get 1/2 Hypos, and 1/2 Motleys, but NO NORMALS.... Very weird... The only reason you are seing Salmon Motleys in that litter you had is because a different Motley parent was used, and that gene attached to the Hypo gene to make your Hypo Motlyes. Kindof confusing. Hopefully we will make it easy to understand with Daves help. lol
So the question remains. Is the ONLY way to get the Red Devil is by breeding HYPO motley to Hypo Motley? We'll hopefully soon find out. Also, the CA's work the SAME way... Hope this kindof helps. There are other examples in other snakes as to why this happens.
