I wonder if that for the 2nd clutch, perhaps the female lacked nutrients necessary for stronger hatchlings. The first clutch depleted her resources. I'm just guessing here.



That, or there was a difference in incubation temps between the two clutches. Was the 2nd clutch incubated "wetter"? Too much mositure touching eggs is bad news.



I think the 78-82 deg F range is more conducive to fat hatchlings, but I don't breed enough to test the theory much. I have had eggs hit 85 deg or even more but always cooled off at night, and I never have had a kinked baby in many clutches from different snakes.
