The temperature scenario may be the reason.

Baby snakes can stress out when handled because they are in "escape the predator" mode.. at least until they are well adjusted and growing. I know it is hard to not handle a new snake, after all, you are excited and snakes are fascinating creatures. My advice is to curb the handling to when necessary (like cage cleaning, water change, etc). At least for a few months. I think the snake will benefit, which is then a benefit to you.
