I have boaphiles, reptiracks, some home built cages and a few fish tanks. I'll tell you the problems with all of them :D



Boaphiles: the doors are hinged at the bottom of the cages so you have to open a door that's the whole length of the cage. If you have it at eye level and have a nippy snake looking for food, it's hard not to get bit. They are also made of thinner material, so if they are hit by the sun, they sag. I do like that they are light, and I do like their latches.



Repi-Racks: the doors slide, so if you have substrate, it gets in the tracking, so you have to be really careful that the doors are closing all the way. Also if you close the door too hard it puts stress on the outside wall of the cage (I've had 1 out of 12 crack). I like the sliding doors though because you can open the door 4 inches and slide a mouse in there on tongs and be protected by the glass from getting tagged. They also seem to keep humidity really well, and I haven't had one sag yet. Also, these have been the cheapest cages I've found in the size I use. You also have to assemble these.



Home built: It's hard to get everything to fit together just right and materials can sometimes be as expensive as buying a cage.



Fish Tanks: obviously for BRBs they don't hold humidity, so you have to cover the cages with all sorts of things to get them from drying out. If you get the ones with the sliding tops they seem to be inescapable which is awesome, BUT the cages can seem to be latched and you can actually leave the top slightly open and not realize it, unless you're really careful.



My vote is for repti-racks. Being cost efficient and relatively durable with the sliding doors I like, I think these are the best I've found so far.



My bf's vote is for boaphiles. He likes the latches because he can't possibly mess up closing the cage.
