Back in the 80's, I had a male, that every fall, would grow, almost like a "rhino horn"! Not as dramatic, obviously, but when it started, it looked much like what you have there! I always suspected it had something to do w/his male changes as it always seemed to coincide w/ breeding season! It would last 3-4 months, then he would shed it off! Very strange! BTW, I'd stay away from turpentine!
