For one, make sure your tank's lid has very secure latches. A textbook doesn't help if you accidentally forget to put it back on there one day.

Are you certain your snake is a female? Her "activeness" sounds an awful lot like my boy who is sporadically eating lately. I forgot to tell Doug about how he climbs all over and pushes at the lid. Maybe they're both looking for females..
