I guess the term "polymorphic" would have actually been much more accurate, as it is a totally normal phenotype from certain wild populations and/or individual wild animals. What I really meant to say, is it would "behave" like a codominant gene, and the offspring would basically be intermediate with some possible variation within the clutch.
