Another larger interesting boid might be a Dumeril's Boa. They rarely get to 6 feet, are commonly bred (although not as much as a few years ago) and are docile. They are also pretty terrestrial.
A Rainbow Boa would be another interesting choice. They come in a variety of color phases (subspecies) some of which are very colorful, are very hardy, and usually quite docile.
Of course, there are a number of other good small boid choices...

any of the Sandboa species
Rosyboa
