Here come the holidays, right? I'm new to snake keeping, and I'm wondering what experienced people DO with their snakes when they leave town. I have to leave for 2 weeks for Christmas, and I have NO ONE, shockingly, who will check in on my 4 month-old BP and change his water, etc. while I'm gone--let alone try and feed him. (Also, I have temp problems overnight with the herpstat probe getting buried under his substrate--I haven't figured out a good system yet--so the temps are not stable for long periods.) I tried contacting the local herp society (Boise, ID) to see if they know of any local caretakers, but to no avail--no reply. I don't want a stranger coming in my house while I'm gone, anyway, so even if I could find a petsitter, the snake would have to change habitats (his 55 gallon is not transportable) and endure stress.

So, finally, here's the QUESTION: Can I take my BP with me on a cross-country road trip, in an opaque rubbermaid bin? If I keep him stationary in the car and keep his temps proper, would it still be way too stressful for him? Another option is to leave him at my sister's house--she lives five hours away from me and is on the way to my ultimate destination. She's willing to keep him while I'm gone, and I think it would be altogether quieter and more calm at her house. Buuut...she has cats, and they would definitely bother him. Besides, this option won't be available next year and I would like to find a long term solution.

I would also like to find the solution which causes my snake the least possible stress, of course. What does everyone else do?
