Some health concerns

Hi I've just noticed there is something sticking out of my ball python's vents. Please identify what it is for me and what I should do about it.

I also put some branches in the tank so my he can climb and lounge on it. The branches are sandblasted but he seems to be getting abrasion probably the screen cover. Should the branches be removed? or is it some sort of problem with his skin?
