I've gone through the house again, up & down, it had to have gotten through the floor vent similar to these:

But I still have my doubts as I'm almost sure the head couldn't fit through the 3/8 space unless it really wanted to and could flatten it's head and body somehow.

As that whole 'system' was cold (the heat wasn't on the time it escaped) would it really make the effort?
