You seem to be focused on the floor vents, but have you looked up high? Check up on top of those cabinets. Sometimes the most unlikely place is where they will be. Don't assume they can't get somewhere.

You might have to break down and buy another one... thats when things seem to show up around my house. (of course I hope you know I'm joking. ....)
