I don't have a lot of experience but recently purchased the Johnson and am real happy with it. When I was researching it seems that the Johnson may be easier to work out a nighttime drop. It seems you'd have to use a 24 VAC transformer wired to it and then plug that into a mechanic appliance timer. Also, I believe the Johnson is smaller. I like mine a lot but it does click on and off a lot. If it's going to be anywhere close to where you're sleeping it will drive you crazy! If I had the money I would have liked a Helix or Herpstat better. The Johnson is great for the $ and does everything it promises.
