In MLB, Like all legitimate professional sports if you can't really do it your not going to be doing it. No body comes straight from the back yard and gets stardom , money and top billing. That only happens in MMA.
I didn't state Lesnar couldn't make it through an NFL training camp. He didn't . Theres no fomar WWE stars or Kimbo slices in the NFL that's why it is legitimate . Only the best play on game day. Lesnar found out NFL means NOT FOR LONG for bums and wannabe's . Your not going to walk in after not doing anything real for years and make the team . Not in any professional sport . That's one of a million things that separates legitimate professional sports from the hack world of MMA. Frank Mir is a very experienced former UFC champion . It was Lesnars first real fight and Mir escaped by the skin of his teeth. Now one fight later Lesnar is the UFC champion. A complete joke.
MMA fans keep trying to use popularity as a point of validation . I guess then fiddy cent is a great musician. He fills the mma criteria for great. Sells lots of cd's , gets endorsements and movie parts. That makes Fiddy a great musician in the same way MMA guys are great athletes . Flash over substance has always been a big seller .
Dana White is smart he knows exactly how to exploit the fighters and the fans. That's why he wants Kimbo on the Ultimate fighter reality show and is willing to put , Gulp.... former WWE bad guy Ken Shamrock in a another fight. Couture has to fight two more times and you can bet he will try to milk Liddle like Shamrock. The UFC is the MMA organization that is supposed to be the best of the best but in the end it's promoted like a rock concert and not as sport.
The match between Coutour and Lesnar was the perfect example . It's not about sport it's about the spectacle . A WWE guy , a guy yelling about the party after the fight, porn star sitting front row anything and everything to sell tickets . A circus . Unlike professional sports that is driven by the quality of the athletes involved MMA is driven by spectacle. If Couture didn't want Lesnar they could have plugged in a fat Chuck Liddle. It still would have sold and been just as entertaining .
