Maybe it is just because I love the Peruvians over the other B.c.c. but it seems to me that they are becoming more popular in the hobby, now that there are people producing them and breeding for specific traits. There is surely something very unique about the ones with the black eyes, I can see where people would see the word "hyper" and assume it to be hypermelanistic.

The phrase "hyper" is way to loose of a name for any variant. It will become very confusing if we don't define exactly what we are desribing in these animals. I have heard and seen the word "hyperpigmented" and feel that is a much better description for the ones with the odd colors and black eyes.

To me the black animals are "melanistic" and could be "hyper-melanistic" depending on the amount of black. This is my opinion, I believe the melanistic animals should prove to be a co-dominant trait and the black eyed animals should prove to be a simple recessive... but I am no mutation guy and this is speculation.

Once we see what happens when they are proven, and the person who proves they are genetic has the honor of coining the name

we will have to deal with the generic "hyper" phrase.
