I think many times we take things to personal and become offended what someone else might think or say about what we like. This is only my opinion but if you really like an animals looks or a certain trait and someone else post's an opinion that they don't care for it ...then so what, that person will never influence me enough to change my mind nor will I change theirs.
As far as what we call "black" I have seen MANY peruvians and I will say that I have only seen three that have been black (hypermelanistic)
I have seen many that have the black and grey washes over their bodies possibly melanistic. I certainly would not call them Black. Then you have the ones that are as I think Eric put it "sooty" and I agree with Richard and Eric not the best looking boas.
Kevin hit the nail on the head and I would like to drive it in, but I agree, John if you could ever possibly get your girls outside for a photo-op and maybe capture the irredescence that make the "black" Peruvians so special, you may show people something they have never seen before.
John I have only ever seen adult hypermelanistic Peruvians and when I say hypermelanistic I am trying to create a legitimate title. I have asked this before does ANYONE know if these are born that way if not then I think I would be wrong calling them Hypermelanistic, I would tend to think that the babies should be black if both parents are, but I also tend to believe that nobody has ever paired and produced with such animals to my knowledge.
As far as the "Ooo, they are turning black scenario" John that statement is the same kind of statement that got your feathers ruffled about the comments made about the black ones, I am not trying to upset anyone but why is it that we can't just let a person enjoy their boas.
In closing I will say this there are very very few "black" Peruvians out there, and they are absolutly not around every corner. I know that there are ALOT of dark Peruvians some look good but most of them are not really my thing. Drag those girls outside for some pic's John I know I would love to see them!!!
Oh yeah and put them on that log!
Take care Joel
