Mites do not come from new/unused bedding. They come from other snakes and from previously contaminated cages, habitats, containers, and ancillary equipment. Snake mites can and do travel from one cage to another. Mammal (mange) mites do not feed on or prey upon snakes.
There are several commercially available mite treatments on the market. Follow manufacturer's directions. Make sure you completely clean and disinfect enclosure/habitat and contents. Use a dilute bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly. There are some aerosol miticides in in a spray can that can be used to treat habitat. Follow manufacturer's directions.
