Back in the 2004-2005 season, I tried breeding one male to 3 females. All 3 females were fertilized by the male, but only 2 of 3 got "good results". One of them had... well "half-success"(there were about 50% slugs and 50% healty babies).
If I were you, I would use one or rather 2 males to one female. I'm pretty sure that the female needs the male's whole attention for successful breeding. When the male's attention is divided, you may won't get so good results.
My opinion only, but I would gladly hear the others, too.
