In my opinion, Listerine is not a good choice for wound treatments as it is really only good for disinfecting healthy tissue. If Listerine worked for you before, my guess would be that the infection would have resolved itself eventually without any treatment at all. Chuck is correct in that Nolvasan, or chlorhexidine diacetate, is a good choice for disinfecting wounds. The proper concentration for this purpose is 0.05%, and best to dilute with distilled water. It also has the added benefit of a residual action. However, chlorhexidine will only be effective if you catch it early and it hasn’t become a deep tissue infection, which would require systemic antibiotics to resolve. Good luck.
