Hi!
Hard to tell from just what you said but it sounds to me like they all gave birth and ate their young, possible due to stress from overcrowding, nervousness with so many new cage mates, or something along that line.
Swollen rear area could just be enlarged from recently giving birth and swollen mammary glands are from a lack of babies to suck the milk. If so, these areas should return to normal size within a few days.
The only other possibility that I can come up with is something in the bedding causing inflammation and possibly even causing the eating of their young.
If you're more advanced than what my reply sems to indicate, I apologize as I have no way of knowing. I surely don't mean to insult your intelligence.
