It would be easier to wire a switch and a double outlet into a metal double gang box with a single extension cord.



Break the tang between the outlets (see instruction on box) to insulate between the two and wire the switch to one.



Plug the light into the switched outlet.



Plug the thermostat into the other, and the RHP into it.



Simple.



BTW my setup is very similar although their are no lights and most everything is hardwired.
