Yeah, I just got one a week before Christmas. I littered this forum with pics and they're all still available on this forum on the first four pages of threads. Feel free to look through them!

The XSi is great straight out of the box with the stock lens. If you're only going to buy one accessory here's my recommendation for boa pics:
-if you do mostly indoor photography, grab the 430EXII speedlite
-if you do mostly outdoor photography and want to use a macro lens, go for it!

A tripod is EXTREMELY valuable, IMO. Especially when not using the flash.

I've used a 4mp P&S Nikon Coolpix for the last 6 years until getting this cam. I am pretty familiar with the manual settings and how to use them, thanks to my old coolpix. But if you want to shoot in auto mode, you'll be pleased with the results of the XSi. But, why go DSLR if you want to shoot in full auto mode all the time?
