I have a female western hognose that is about two and a half years old. I've had her for two years, and I've been keeping snakes for more than three years. Several months ago, she developed an infection in her musk or anal gland at the base of her tail. I took her to a vet and after several rounds of antibiotics the infection was cleared up. It was gone for about 4-5 months, but now the infection has returned, and she is now getting treated again. Her tank is kept very clean, both by spot-cleaning messes and disinfecting everything and changing the shavings every few weeks. The vet has told me that there is nothing preventative I can do for her, but I was wondering if some of you have had experience with anything like this or had any advice. All these trips to the vet and antibiotics are very expensive! Thanks for any help you can give me.
