I noticed in the past when I used them, that if they are fairly new they can tend to smell when they heat up, I don't think its harmful, but I thought of it as a break in period, the newness had to wear off, the smell eventually went away after some use and the breakin period was over.
If you have had it a long time, then I would be cautious about it...If it gave you headache there might be something wrong with it...
