I am no authority, but I spoke to AZ fish and game guy once and he said that a handgun was fine as along as it was not concealed in any way. I am pretty sure that NM will allow handguns but I am not sure of the nuances. I am pretty sure that they have reciprocity for most states that have a CHL, but like I said I am not sure of the nuances for NM law.
