Update on 50% hog island blood boas

In 2005 I bred a pure Blood boa with a hog island boa. I had already produced bloods and bloody salmons in 2004 and wanted to see if I could produce a blood boa that would stay red and retain it's pattern.

I bred hets together last year and produced 2 small litters of 50% hog island blood boas. All of the babies appear very red but there is some variation in the babies which may reflect how much hog island influence is in the babies. I think all of the babies will not get dark like typical blood boas. In particular I think the babies that are very light now are going to turn into very colorful and red adults. The pictures hows 2 litter mates with a very red darker female and a lighter red male. So far I am very pleased with this project and think this will be a good way to not only make blood boas that will stay red but also red blood boa combination morphs. I will post pictures again in a few months when I can take them outside and really show how red these animals are.
