I don't think this has anything to do with "the times"...other than in hard times is when people's true colors become most evident.
I agee with the others. If the seller had disclosed a defect, and you ordered the animal with that knowledge, then that's one thing. However, if he sent a defective animal without telling you, he should allow you to return it without any cost to you, and learn that he needs to excersise complete disclosure to avoid this stiuation in the future.
If he actually said something to the affect "any other time, I'd make it right", then he is clearly stating he is in the wrong, and he knows he it, but is going to use "the economy" as an excuse to not do the right thing.
That's a shame....good luck, hopefully he'll reconsider his position.
