Hi -- I'm not expert, but have some experience so maybe some others will add to this..
Place the probe in one of the bins near the heat source. You want to monitor close to the heat source to ensure that the temps aren't getting too hot. You'll need to test different areas and then tape it down where you feel is best. You don't want the snakes moving around the probe because if for some reason the probe gets moved far away from the heat source you might burn up your snakes.. Trial and error pretty much..
As far as holes in the tub others can chime in on it. For some of my tubs I just went crazy with a drill and drilled a good bit so they could breath, you'll want some airflow in the tubs so keep that in mind.
Your tubs should still have a hide in it for them to feel secure.
Most people go lidless in the racks but this is your decision.
