If yuo have several bird feeders in your yard, well stocked with seeds and such, the birds will drop some on the ground, attracting rodents, which in turn will welcome snakes. As for the pond, the home centers have small plastic pond liners you can dig into the ground fairly easily. Though be careful about creating a mosquito breeding spot.
