That's a very good question. I'm sure one thing going on behind closed doors is .

The Activist are trying to get the big chains and their suppliers to support their position . It `s already very difficult to beat back the activist . How hard would it be to do if their being supported by the most powerful segment of our own industry ?

I don't believe the chains want to give up anything more at this point but they will do what they have to. These company's aren't going anywhere. Their expanding. If working with the activist makes things easier for them that's how it will be. Part of the deal might be supporting legislation that would effectively kill off the private trade in exotic wildlife. One way or the other the big chains are going to be fine so ......................

If things go any further it could get very dark very fast for private exotic owners. Petco has been working their deal since last year. Peta is working on PetSmart right now .

Following lengthy negotiations with PETA,
PETCO--the nation's second-largest pet store chain--will reduce the number of animals for sale in its stores nationwide by 30 percent.

Petco denies that the PETA campaign affected its bottom line, stating the agreement was about public perception and that being aligned with PETA was best for all involved.
