Tubs for Hatchlings

I'm planning on building a rack to hold baby ball pythons. I read that a 6 quart tub is a good size to use. I'm concerned that it might be difficult to maintain a temp gradient with a small size tub. I plan on heating from the bottom. I'd appreciate any advice.
