A guy I've been chatting with for a while has a Peruvian. Not sure is it's a male or female. Probed as a female but still not sure.
Any ways, the question is do BRB's have a hemipenal component to the shed like GTP's do? First off I have no idea if GTP's have a hemipenal component to the regular shed. We (I) got side tracked into what we're calling hemipenal sheds during mating before I realized he was talking about normal sheds.
So, I didn;t know the answer and did not have a male shed to check. Later that evening one of my breeder males shed and I also have a females shed. No hemipenal component to the shed. However, I did find that the vestigal spur IS there and is covered by a scale. And, the male spur is longer/larger than the female.
This is a single male spur, right side out, shed folded si it protrudes...
And another pic showing the male spur on the left and a female spur on the right...
Clearly not different enough IMO to be used for sexing an individual, but still cool. ----- Thanks,
Dave Colling
